Op 13 oktober 2015 verdedigde Astrid Aardenburg-van Huisstede haar proefschrift aan de Universiteit Leiden, getiteld: Morbid obesity and asthma – co-morbidity or causal relationship?. Zij verrichtte haar promotieonderzoek in het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum en het Franciscus Gasthuis te Rotterdam, begeleid door prof. dr. P.S. Hiemstra, prof. dr. C. Taube en dr. G.J. Braunstahl. Astrid Aardenburg-van Huisstede is in opleiding tot longarts in het Franciscus Gasthuis te Rotterdam.
